TikTok Ad Account Suspended: How to Recover and What to Do Next

The Adtucon toucan pointing

If your TikTok ad account is suspended, open the Account Health page, read the reason, fix the cause and file one appeal from there, because a first violation gives you 30 days before the suspension turns permanent.

Most people find out from a flat line in the dashboard, then a banner saying "Your account has been suspended". The instinct is to do something fast, which usually means editing ads, firing off three tickets or spinning up a new account. All three can cost you. The first hour goes better if you read before you touch anything.

Key takeaways
  1. Read the reason on the Account Health page first, fix the cause, then file one appeal from there.
  2. TikTok gives a first violation 30 days. If the issues remain or your appeal is rejected after that, the suspension is permanent and can't be appealed.
  3. Don't open a new ad account while the appeal is under review, and answer any request for more information within 48 hours.
  4. A refund on a suspended account is TikTok's call, can carry a service fee of up to 10%, and on an agency account it goes back to whoever paid TikTok.

What stops when a TikTok ad account is suspended?

Delivery stops and most of the account locks. TikTok's page on suspended ad accounts lists the restrictions.

Part of the accountWhat happens
Your adsAll stopped. They go back to their original status if the suspension is lifted
Delivery statusAdmins and Operators can still change the status of campaigns, ad groups and ads
Everything else in the accountLocked. You can't adjust other account or campaign settings
PixelsYou lose some features, such as transferring and accessing pixels
Agency accountsCan't be used to create new ad accounts or add money to ad accounts
RefundsA separate process from the normal one, covered below

If you're on an agency account, read the agency row twice. Your provider can't fix a suspension by topping up, so don't send more money to a suspended account.

Why did TikTok suspend the account?

The reason sits in Account Health, under Tools, Account setup. TikTok lists five common causes, and each one has a usual shape in practice.

TikTok's wordingWhat it tends to look like
Reports or complaints from people on TikTok or other channelsBuyers unhappy with delivery or quality. TikTok collects 0 to 5 ratings after a purchase, and a significant amount of negative feedback can suspend the account on its own
Problems with ad content, qualifications or the services in your adsA claim you can't back up, or a product that needs a licence you haven't shown
Changes to the landing page after creating a campaignThe page TikTok reviewed isn't the page people land on any more
Malicious behaviour or intent suspected during ad creationAnything that reads as an attempt to get past review
A violation of the Advertising Guidelines or other standardsThe catch-all, so open the ad group details to see which policy it was

Two other routes to a suspension aren't in that list. If your health status drops from Good to Poor with nothing in between, TikTok says there might be outstanding payment issues or other risks on the account, so check billing before you rewrite a single ad. And the Advertiser Account Policy covers identity and money, such as falsified documents or payment methods that aren't approved. If someone took over the account, TikTok says it suspends it temporarily and restores it to its rightful owner.

Is the suspension temporary or permanent?

It depends on how serious the violation is. On a first violation TikTok gives you 30 days to address the issues or appeal. If the issues remain, or your appeal is rejected after 30 days, the suspension becomes permanent, you can't appeal that decision and you lose access to Ads Manager features. Some violations bring an immediate suspension with no warning.

Be careful with the deadline, because TikTok's Help Center gives three different clocks.

What should you do in the first hour?

  1. Save the evidence. Screenshot the notification, the Suspension Details section and the Account Health page, and note the date. You'll want the exact wording later.
  2. Stop editing. Leave the ads and the landing page alone until you know what was flagged. You can still pause delivery if you need to.
  3. Don't open a new account. TikTok says to avoid creating any new ad accounts while your appeal is under review.
  4. Tell whoever has a relationship with TikTok. If you work with a sales representative or a provider, talk to them before you file. A rep can submit the appeal for you, and the system blocks duplicates, so two people filing at once only wastes time.
  5. Get the list of what broke. In Account Health, open each policy category and click View ad group details. The list may include deleted ad groups, so don't assume deleting something cleared it.
  6. Check billing. Look for a failed payment or a method that's expired, above all if the account fell straight to Poor.

How do you appeal a TikTok ad account suspension?

The newer route runs entirely inside Account Health. TikTok's appeal page says it's available globally to all advertisers on TikTok Ads Manager.

  1. Follow the banner or pop-up. Ads policy suspensions lead to Account Health, and other kinds of enforcement lead to Account Settings.
  2. Under Suspension Details, read the enforcement and click Submit Appeal.
  3. Fill in the form and attach your documents. The status changes to Under Review.
  4. Watch the Appeal widget. View Appeal Details shows the history and the messages.
  5. If the status changes to More Information Required, you have 48 hours to reply in the Appeal Details drawer. Keep an eye on your email, because a weekend is longer than that.
  6. The final result shows as Appeal Approved or Appeal Not Approved. If you have questions about it, you can reply in the same drawer within 48 hours.

If you can't reach that page, TikTok's older route runs through the Help icon, Ad Assistant, Submit ticket, then Account/Ad Review, Account Review, Account Suspension Appeal. That page says to expect a reply within two business days and to file only one appeal per incident, since several appeals on the same issue slow things down.

What should the appeal say?

What changed, with proof. Arguing with the reviewer won't help. Show that you understood the problem and fixed it, in as few words as you can manage.

Ad account ID: [your ID]
Suspended on: [date]
Reason shown in Suspension Details: [copy it exactly]

What we found: [the ad groups and policy involved]
What we changed: [creative removed, claim edited, landing page fixed, with dates]
What we will do from now on: [one real control, such as a claims check before launch]
Attached: [business certificate, licence, invoices, before and after of the page]

If you think the suspension is a mistake, say so once and show why, with the licence or the document that proves it. Leave out what your competitors are running. And don't promise anything you won't actually do, because the next review reads the same account.

The newer route runs entirely inside Account Health.

What happens to the balance on a suspended TikTok account?

It's in doubt until TikTok decides. Account Health warns that with a Poor status you may lose access to funds, subject to its Refund Policy. The rules for a refund on a suspended account are different from a normal one.

  • It isn't automatic. TikTok looks at factors including whether laws or its policies were broken, and makes a determination on each request.
  • There can be a charge. TikTok may take a service fee of up to 10% of the remaining prepaid amount, or the legal maximum where the account is based. Bank fees are on you.
  • The money goes back the way it came. Unless agreed otherwise, it returns to the original payment instrument.
  • You ask a person. Contact your account manager or customer support. A limited set of customers get an automated path, under Account health, called Close account and refund.
  • It takes time. TikTok aims for 5 business days, with up to 60 days for manual review, bank delays or an invalid payment method. A card that has expired or been removed can block the refund.

Accounts in good standing request a refund themselves, from Business Center or Ads Manager. Don't count on that route here.

Arguing with the reviewer won't help.

On an agency account all of this runs through the provider, because the payment instrument is theirs. Your claim is against them, under your contract with them, and TikTok isn't part of that conversation. We go through it platform by platform in what happens to your balance when an agency account is banned.

With us, money you haven't allocated sits in your team wallet, and a top down moves unspent budget from a live account back to that balance. A suspended account isn't a live account, so ask a person what applies to yours. Better still, ask before you top up.

The rules for a refund on a suspended account are different from a normal one.

What changes if you're on an agency account?

The steps are the same, except the account isn't yours. Your provider owns it, so tell them first and agree who files. TikTok's suspension page is clear that a suspended agency account can't take more money, so a top up in progress needs a conversation, not a retry. Ask them what they can see that you can't, such as the exact wording of the enforcement and any note from a TikTok contact.

When one of ours falls, you hear it from a person, with the reason. We read why it happened, fix what can be fixed and resubmit with you, and the 30-day clock is the reason we move early. If the account can't come back, you get a new one at no charge. That replacement doesn't carry the old problem away, so if the ad that killed the account goes straight back up, the next one goes the same way.

Don't count on that route here.

What if the appeal is rejected?

Then the suspension is permanent and that route is closed. What's left is a short list.

Request the refund, following the steps above. Export whatever reports you can still reach. Then work out the cause properly before you launch anything new, because the Advertiser Account Policy doesn't allow advertisers to get around its systems, and it says enforcement can reach temporary or permanent suspension from all Bytedance platforms. Rebuilding the same offer and the same page under a new account name is how you run into that sentence.

How do you keep the next account out of trouble?

No account is safe from this, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something. What you can do is read the warning signs TikTok already gives you.

Check Account Health on a schedule. It updates daily and moves through Good, Attention needed, Restricted and Poor. Attention needed comes with suggested fixes, and some have a time limit shown on the page.

Treat a suspension warning as a task for today. TikTok says you can get several in one day, and that continued violations may lead to suspension. If you think a warning is wrong, appeal it then.

Your provider owns it, so tell them first and agree who files.

Keep the landing page frozen once a campaign is live. If it has to change, change the link in the ad, which sends it back through review. Read your customer feedback score, since a product problem can suspend an ad account. And watch for business verification notices. Missing that deadline pauses your ads, which is a different problem from a suspension and an easy one to avoid.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to appeal a TikTok ad account suspension?

TikTok's most recent page, updated June 2026, gives a first violation 30 days to fix the issue or appeal. Older help pages mention 180 days and 3 working days. Work to the shortest date you can and treat 30 days as the outer limit.

How long does a TikTok suspension appeal take?

An older TikTok page says to expect a reply within two business days. The newer process inside Account Health gives no fixed time, but you can follow the status there, and if TikTok asks for more information you have 48 hours to answer.

Can I appeal more than once?

File one appeal per incident. TikTok says multiple appeals for the same issue in a short time delay processing, and its system blocks duplicates when a sales representative has already filed one. Once a suspension is permanent, you can't appeal it.

Will I get my balance back from a suspended TikTok account?

It isn't automatic. TikTok decides based on factors such as whether policies or laws were broken, and it may charge a service fee of up to 10% of the remaining prepaid amount. On an agency account, ask your provider, because the refund goes to the original payment instrument and that's theirs.

Can I open a new TikTok ad account while I'm suspended?

TikTok says to avoid creating new ad accounts while an appeal is under review. Its Advertiser Account Policy also doesn't allow getting around its systems, so a new account running the same thing can make the situation worse.
